The story

One assignment. A trail no one can afford to leave open.

Amrit—a Sikh woman and former military intelligence operative now working freelance—has agreed to protect Serena Chen Xiaoyun. Given her experience, the assignment seems straightforward.

Serena, a young financial controller, has uncovered payments that have no right to exist in the books of a conglomerate with contracts in three ministries and friends in every room that matters. Within hours, a private army is hunting them both.

At Amrit's side are Li Wei, trained for twenty years at Shaolin, and her husband Arjun, a military pilot who keeps his nerve when every route appears closed.

Their escape leads through Singapore's temples and hidden passages, into the Malaysian jungle, through Kuala Lumpur, across the Malacca Strait, through Sumatra, and into the alleys of Jakarta. But the deeper Amrit digs, the more dangerous the truth becomes.

The country

Why Singapore?

We live in a world torn by ethnic, racial, and religious disputes, where corruption has become daily news. In the middle of it stands a tiny state that meets every condition for hosting all of these conflicts at once: four official languages, three major religions, Chinese, Malays, Indians, and expatriates from everywhere, pressed onto an island smaller than an average city, with no natural resources, not enough water, and no room to spare.

Singapore chose otherwise. It chose to make diversity a discipline rather than a fuse, and integrity an infrastructure rather than a slogan. It is a state that cannot afford corruption, because there is nowhere to retreat to if it fails: behind it lies nothing but the sea.

Such a place is the perfect setting for a novel where order is nearly complete, every crack becomes drama. And whoever tries to buy what is not for sale discovers that the smallest state in Southeast Asia has the longest reach.

The faith

Why Sikh?

Because it is an extraordinary community, shaped by a faith I deeply admire. I hold all religions in sincere respect; the admiration expressed here is not a comparison, but an explanation of why the Sikh faith felt inseparable from Amrit. From its beginnings, the Sikh faith has affirmed that women are in no way inferior to men—neither in prayer nor on the battlefield.

And in a world where blood is still spilled in the name of religion, people of every faith and background are welcome in gurdwaras if they enter with respect, remove their shoes, and cover their heads: three simple and natural rules.

Within the sacred space of a gurdwara, faith and respect enter first; labels wait outside.

One God, all people equal before Him, and faith proved not through ritual alone, but through honest work, generosity, and the courage to defend the vulnerable.

Within the world of this novel, Amrit could only have emerged from such a tradition.
